Patterson falls to Riverdale Baptist, 56-55, in Basketball Academy

Despite double-doubles from Gary Blackston and Demetrich Williams and a shot to win the game at the buzzer, Patterson fell to Riverdale Baptist, 56-55, at the Basketball Academy at Lake Clifton.

Blackston finished with 21 points and 11 rebounds, his second straight double-double this season. Demetrich Williams finished with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Three other players scored in double figures for the Clippers (16-4), who wrap up the regular season next week.

Dereck Oliver finished with 11 points and six assists, and his jumper from the top of the key as time expired fell just short. Koran Moore added 10 points, nine rebounds and two blocks, and Richard Hibbert had three points to round out the scoring.

Patterson led by as many as eight points early, but Riverdale Baptist faught back to take a 35-33 at halftime. The Clippers held a four-point lead in the fourth quarter, but Riverdale Baptist went on 7-0 run to regain the lead. Patterson led again, 55-54, but a turnover and Riverdale Baptist layup with less than a minute left was the decisive score.

The Basketball Academy honored Blackston with the MVP award and Hibbert with the scholar athlete award.

Patterson is back in action on Tuesday when it hosts City on senior night. The Clippers will honors Oliver, Blackston, Williams and Tyquan Pointer. JV tips at 3:45 p.m. and varsity at 5:15 p.m.
