Patterson jumped out to a big early lead and withstood a Thoedore Roosevelt comeback to win 73-70 in the D.C./Baltimore Challenge at Coolidge High School.
The Clippers (12-3) led 24-6 near the end of the first quarter, but Theodore Roosevelt ended the half on a 27-7 run to take the lead into halftime. Roosevelt led by as many as five points in the second half and led 48-46 before the Clippers went on 11-0 run to take the lead for good.
Dereck Oliver finished with 25 points, three assists, three rebounds and two steals, his 10th straight game of 20 or more points. Richard Hibbert had a career-high 19 points and added four rebounds and three steals. He went 11 of 12 from the free-throw line to help the Clippers close out the victory.
Gary Blackston had 11 points, eight rebounds and eight assists while Demetrich Williams had seven points and six rebounds. Koran Moore had five points, seven rebounds and three blocks. Earl Ross (four points) and Christion Adams (2 points) rounded out the scoring for Patterson, who out-rebounded Roosevelt 38-24.
The Clippers are back in action on Tuesday when they host Poly. JV tips at 3:45 p.m. and varsity at 5:15 p.m.
