Coming off its first loss of the season 24 hours earlier, Patterson got back on the winning track with a 60-52 victory over Wicomino at the Governor’s Challenge in Salisbury.
The Clippers (6-1), who lost to Parkside in their first game of the Governor’s Challenge, got strong efforts from its three starting seniors, who combined for 53 points.
Dereck Oliver had his second straight 21-point night and added three assists and two rebounds. Gary Blackston notched his fourth straight double-double with 21 points and 11 rebounds. And Demetrich Williams had his second straight strong game, adding 11 points and six rebounds.
Patterson took a 27-23 lead into halftime and after Wicomico scored six unanswered points to start the half, the Clippers went on a 14-4 run to create separation. They never trailed the rest of the way.
Patterson out-rebounded Wicomino 34-21 and shot 45.8 percent from the field. The team is back in action on January 6 when it returns to league play at Poly.
