A season-high 29 points from Dereck Oliver and Gary Blackston’s fifth straight double-double led Patterson to a 60-53 win at Poly.
Oliver scored 19 points in the second half, helping the Clippers (7-1) stave off a late Poly run and sealing the game. Patterson led by as many as 13 points in the fourth quarter before Poly cut the lead to 1, but the Clippers scored the final six points of the game.
Oliver went 17 of 20 from the free throw line and the Clippers finished 29 of 39 as a team. Oliver also added four rebounds and three steals.
Blackston finished with 13 points, 10 rebounds and three steals. The senior guard is second on the team in points behind Oliver and leads the team with 10.2 rebounds a game.
Patterson also got a strong effort from its third starting senior, Demetrich Williams, who finished with seven points, 10 rebounds, and two blocks. He also converted a crucial three-point play to push the lead to 57-53 late in the fourth quarter.
Tyquan Pointer, Daquan Jones and Koran Moore each added three points for the Clippers. Moore also had nine rebounds. Earl Ross rounded out the scoring with two points and added three rebounds.
Patterson’s JV defeated Poly 50-48 in overtime. Isaiah Clemons finished with 16 points, Durrell Johnson had 11, and Daquan Heath had 8.
Patterson is back in action on Friday when it travels to Digital Harbor. JV tips off at 3:45 p.m. and varsity follows 20 minutes after the conclusion of the JV game.
