Patterson shook off a slow start and used a strong second half to defeat Ben Franklin, 64-48, in its home opener.
The Clippers (2-0) fell behind 8-0 to start but chipped away at Ben Franklin’s lead and went into halftime leading 28-24. Ben Franklin cut their lead to one point at 34-33 in the third quarter, but Patterson went on 18-0 run to seal the game.
Sophomore Koran Moore lead Patterson with 16 points, nine rebounds and two blocks. Senior Dereck Oliver had 12 points and six assists and senior Demetrich Williams rounded out the double-figure scorers with 14 points, seven rebounds, three steals and two blocks.
Senior Gary Blackston chipped in nine points, nine rebounds and four steals. Junior Daquan Jones added seven points and six rebounds.
The Clippers held Ben Franklin to 30.9 percent shooting and held a 46-32 rebounding advantage.
The JV team moved to 2-0 with a 58-29 win. Daquan Heath led scorers with 18 points. Tyrell Williams had 16 points and Trey Robinson added 13.
Patterson returns to action next Monday when it hosts W.E.B. DuBois. JV tips at 3:45 p.m. and varsity at 5:15 p.m.
