Patterson used a balanced scoring attack and stingy defense to win its season opener over Maritime Academy, 86-16.
Five players scored in double figures for the Clippers (1-0), who shot 66% (35-of-53) from the field and led 57-9 at halftime. Senior Gary Blackston led all scorers with 14 points, making all six of his field goal attempts. He also chipped in five assists and three steals.
Junior Richard Hibbert had 13 points, three rebounds, two assists and three steals; junior Daquan Jones had 11 points, including three 3-pointers; sophomore Earl Ross had 11 points, four rebounds and six steals; and sophomore Christion Adams had 10 points and three rebounds.
The Clippers forced Maritime Academy into 34 turnovers and held it to just 6 of 20 (30%) from the field.
Other scorers for Patterson included senior Dereck Oliver, who had nine points, four assists and two rebounds; senior Demetrich Williams, who had seven points, three rebounds and two assists; sophomore Koran Moore, who had six points, three rebounds, three steals and two blocked shots; sophomore G’Waun Williams, who had three points, five assists and two steals; and senior Tyquan Pointer, who had two points and two steals. Sophomore Tyriek Clark added two rebounds.
Patterson is back in action on Friday for its home opener against Ben Franklin.
