Dunbar broke a tie with 3.8 seconds left to defeat Patterson, 47-45, in front of a capacity crowd at Patterson.
Dunbar guard Anthony Brown hit two free throws in the final seconds to lift the Poets over the Clippers (8-2), whose potential game-winning 3-pointer from sophomore guard Tyquan Pointer went off the front of the rim as time expired.
Junior guard Kwynten Brooks led Patterson in scoring with 14 points. He also added four assists and four steals, continuing his strong all-around play.
Patterson led at halftime, 20-18, and extended its lead to 30-20 in the third quarter before Dunbar stormed back. The game went back and forth after Dunbar tied the score at 36–neither team held a more than three-point advantage.
The Clippers also got a solid effort from sophomore guard Dereck Oliver, who finished with eight points, three assists and three steals. Junior forward Dawan Bass added five points, eight rebounds and three steals. Senior guard Devante Conyers had an excellent night on defense and added eight points and four rebounds.
Senior guard Anthony Dandridge had a solid night playing at power forward, finishing with three rebounds and three blocks.
Patterson is back in action on Tuesday at Poly.
